Do I have to label AI-generated videos on social media?
Last checked:
On YouTube and TikTok, yes when the content looks realistic: both platforms' own rules say creators must disclose or label realistic AI-generated or significantly AI-edited content, and unlabeled content can be removed or restricted. This is not legal advice, and platform rules change, so read the current rules before you post.
YouTube
YouTube requires you to disclose content that is realistic and was made or meaningfully changed with AI, for example content that makes a real person appear to say or do something they did not do, alters footage of a real event or place, or shows a realistic scene that did not happen.
No disclosure is needed for content that is not realistic (a person riding a unicorn through a fantasy world), or for minor edits: beauty filters, colour adjustment, background blur, captions, and using AI to help write a script or make a thumbnail.
YouTube says creators who consistently do not disclose may get a label applied by YouTube, or penalties including removal of content or suspension from the YouTube Partner Program.
TikTok
TikTok's Community Guidelines require a label on AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking scenes or people, and say unlabeled content may be removed, restricted or labeled by TikTok depending on the harm it could cause.
What EZShot does by default
EZShot turns the AI label on for what it makes. For realistic AI videos and pictures the label is always on and cannot be switched off; for illustrated or motion-graphic content it is on by default and can be switched off; your own footage, edited without AI people, voices or scenes, is not labeled by default. It sets the network's own flag where one exists and otherwise adds a short "AI-generated" line to the caption.
